S-Sync |
| Q. |
What
can S-Sync do for you? |
| A. |
S-Sync service provides the most up-to-date
information to all of the users' mobile devices utilizing
most efficient type of network signals. It also provides users
with convenience whenever a need to transfer information from
one mobile device to another. |
| Q. |
How
does S-Sync determine if a file is changed? |
| A. |
The most recent file version is determined
based on a combination of file attributes, size and time-stamp
(not just the file modification time). To ensure the safety
of your data, when there is uncertainty as to which file is
the most recent, the user is prompted for confirmation. |
| Q. |
What
happens if a network connection drops during synchronization? |
| A. |
You won't lose any files. When S-Sync replaces
a file, first it copies it to a temporary file in the destination
folder. Only after the copy operation completes successfully,
the program replaces the target file with the temporary one.
So, in the case of a connection failure only the temporary
files is affected. Just synchronize again when the connection
is restored. |
| Q. |
How
does the application handle deleted files and folders? |
| A. |
S-Sync recognizes that you deleted a file
or a folder from one location and deletes it from the other.
You can optionally disable propagation of file deletions.
|
| Q. |
What
type of data can be synchronized? |
| A. |
Our primary goal is to help you safeguard
and transfer your most valuable data: the files that you create
yourself (directly or indirectly)--they cannot be replaced
by anyone else. These include your MS Office documents, pictures,
text files, contacts, password manager data or any other files
your applications work with. We do this by distributing a
reliable application that provides enhanced data synchronization
services. Data replication between multiple devices allows
you to use and modify those files when and where you want:
at home, in the office, on a business trip, etc. As an added
bonus, you get data backup with no extra effort. |
| Q. |
I
always back up to my SIM. Why do I need S-Sync? |
| A. |
Most people don't keep their SIMs up to date.
Of more concern is theft and loss. If your phone is either
lost or stolen, information stored on your SIM will also be
lost, therefore S-Sync protects you in the most adverse situations.
|
| Q. |
Is
the data transmission encrypted between S-Sync and my phone? |
| A. |
Yes. Your data is important and treated accordingly.
Protection takes two forms: encryption of data between the
cellular phone to and from Mbience' server. For an extra layer
of security, each encrypted message transaction between the
user and S-Sync uses its own data encryption key, and the
keys are never transmitted over the air. |
| Q. |
Can
I use the data from another mobile device? |
| A. |
Yes, in two ways.
- If you're moving to a new device, you'll want to use the
data that came originally from your old device. If the old
device and new device both have the same phone number, start
S-Sync application on your new device, and restore your
personal data in seconds. You will need to enter your PIN.
- If your new device and your old device do not have the
same number, you'll need to change your phone number on
the existing account to the new one. Start S-Sync application
on your new device, and restore your personal data in seconds.
You will need to enter your PIN.
|
| Q. |
Can
I see and manage my data on the web site? |
| A. |
You can see, add to, modify, or delete your
personal information. You must log in using your phone number
and PIN. After you have made any changes to your data on the
web site, run the application on your mobile device to make
sure your changes appear on the device. |
| Q. |
Do
I need to use the web site to back up my data? |
| A. |
No. You can use the application from your
mobile device without ever going to Mbience' web site (other
than to download the application if it did not come with your
phone). Think of the web site as a tool that makes it easier
to work with your personal information -- the contacts, names,
email addresses, and phone numbers -- on your device. |
